Who is Function and Form?

Conceived in 1999 and brought to life in 2005, Function and Form is a suspension company who has always been focused on providing a balance between function and form, all at a very affordable price. Aside from producing quality suspension components, Function and Form also focuses on building a lifestyle focused brand. They're a group of enthusiasts who are focused on building products they would want for their own vehicles.

Why Choose Function and Form?

With so many suspension companies on the aftermarket, it's difficult to choose the right one. All coilover may look very similar on the outside, but the materials used and the internal designs can be different. There are three key points which separate Function and Form from the other aftermarket suspension companies.

Build Quality

When it comes to suspension components, build quality is very important. It doesn’t matter how well your suspension performs if it breaks mid-corner, and no one wants to replace their suspension every season due to leaks, squeaks, or failing components. From the steel lower mounts to the beefy and strong top mounts, Function and Form offers coilovers with exceptional build quality. This build quality carries across their entire product line-up.

Performance

The whole idea behind installing aftermarket coilovers is to improve performance by reducing excessive body movement while cornering and braking. Function and Form achieves great performance throughout their entire product line by carefully spring rates and damping for each application. Some of their products are better tailored for street use and some are designed for track use, but they all provide significant improvement in handling compared to your OEM suspension.

Price

High price does not always equal high-quality. One of the core objectives within Function and Form is to “Choose to go the path not taken by other companies and dare to be different.” They reflect this in their consumer friendly pricing model which brings great quality and great performance at a very approachable price. Both Type 1 and Type 2 coilovers are significantly cheaper than what the competition has to offer, without massively sacrificing reliability or performance.

Why Install Aftermarket Suspension?

The idea behind an aftermarket coilover is to improve handling by reducing body movement. Auto makers build their vehicles to appeal to a wide range of potential buyers and as such they must use compliant suspension. Unfortunately, compliant suspension typically comes at the cost of excessive body movement during corners and under braking. By reducing this excessive body movement, the car handles more predictable and spreads the load across all four tires better, resulting in more driver confidence and overall improved handling.

By using stiffer springs paired with tuned dampers, body movement is reduced. Handling isn’t absolutely everything. A big reason to install Function and Form coilovers on your car is to reduce ride height and give your car the stance you want. This is achieved through a fully threaded coilover, which allows spring pre-load and ride height to be adjusted independently. Being able to adjust ride height and spring pre-load independently allows for much greater suspension tuning.

For those who want the most on-track performance possible, additional damping adjustments are a necessity. On Function and Form Type 2 coilovers, they add a small knob to the top of the coilover which allows for 32 levels of damping adjustment.

Type 1 Coilovers

The Type 1 coilovers are the basic entry level offering from Function and Form. It features preset damping for comfort and great street performance. It’s the ideal coilover for an enthusiast who wants a simple way to lower their car and improve performance without a complicated coilover which needs adjustment. The less aggressive spring rates make the Type 1 ideal for street use, and the simple height adjustment makes it easy to get the perfect ride height the first time.

Type 2 Coilovers

For enthusiasts who want more performance and adjustability, Function and Form offers the Type 2. Compared to the Type 1, the Type 2 uses more aggressive spring rates and 32 levels of damping adjustment. It’s still a great coilover for street use, but it’s a little more track oriented than the Type 1. It features the same Monotube design as the Type 1, which provides great strength and excellent heat dissipation.
