If you're looking to take your BMW E46's handling to the next level, the Fortune Auto Generation 5-510 series dampers are worth a serious look. These aren't just any dampers; they’re the result of some serious R&D that comes from racing success in events like World Challenge and Global Time Attack. The technology behind these dampers is impressive, featuring the new "Ultra" Double Digressive Piston (UDDP) design. What does that mean for you? Well, it translates to incredible low-speed force, which really helps with those driver inputs—think dive, pitch, and roll. Plus, they taper off nicely to give you that internal "blow off" effect, which is a game changer when you're hitting curbs at high speeds. Stability on track? Check.

One of the standout features of the 510 series is the improved shaft seals. They’ve got 40% less drag compared to previous models, which means less hysteresis and way better control over what your car is doing. These seals are made from a specially formulated Buna rubber compound, striking a solid balance between performance and reliability. A stronger seal translates to better quality and performance—simple as that.

Now, let’s talk about the shims. These little disks are crucial for regulating fluid flow in the damper. The precision of these shims is where the magic happens. Just a tiny change in their diameter or thickness can shift the damper’s force profile by as much as 25%. That’s why we use high-grade Sandvik steel for our shims—because consistency is key when you’re matching shock absorbers.

The bright dip anodizing process gives the aluminum parts a shiny finish while protecting them from corrosion and oxidation. So not only do they look good, but they’ll also last. And with the revised jetting and a wider adjustment range, you'll find that every click in the adjustment makes a noticeable difference in damping force. You’ll even hear it—each click provides a distinct sound, so you'll know you're making changes.

Fortune Auto has put a lot of thought into the strength of the piston shafts as well. After extensive testing and tweaking, they’ve found the sweet spot between hardness and malleability, which is crucial for both safety and performance. Plus, they’ve reinforced the brackets and mounting points for added rigidity. Most applications even come with OEM brake line tabs welded to the lower mounts, making installation cleaner and safer.

With digressive piston technology, you get the best of both worlds—sharp control and a smooth ride. It’s all about translating your inputs into precise handling while still maintaining grip over rough surfaces.

Fortune Auto Manufacturing

Fortune Auto is one of the few U.S.-based suspension companies that actually inspect, assemble and service shocks right here in the USA. It is the only company that offers this on height/damping adjustable Coilovers at its price point. Fortune Auto’s shock assembly and service center use multiple state-of-the-art Roehrig 2VS shock dynos that help it calibrate and match new shocks before shipping them out. Fortune Auto also utilizes the dyno for extensive testing and research purposes. The expansive Virginia facility gives the company the ability to prototype and test new applications and products before they go into production.

It’s important to reiterate that Fortune Auto not only designs and builds suspension parts, but tests it in the harshest of environments – the race track. Its entire product lineup has been rigorously tested and refined on Fortune Auto’s race cars. This allows the company to determine what works in the real world and what ultimately does not. Moreover, Fortune Auto learns what is effective and how to adjust its products to gain maximum results.
